My First Two-Sentence Horror Story

So, “two-sentence horror stories” — that’s still a thing, right? There’s a pretty popular subreddit, and they made a whole show out of it? I dunno, I’m increasingly out of the loop. In any event, as someone with both a love of unnerving short fiction and experimenting with new formats, I was surprised to realize that I’d never actually taken a crack at one myself! So when a certain creepy couplet popped into my head, I decided to not just leave it as lines on the screen but give a bit more of a… visual flourish:

“An Ice” – A frozen thought experiment

You can have fire but also *a* fire… so, what if you could also have “an ice”? For years, I thought the idea would be a fun thing to explore within a larger piece… maybe a spell in a fantasy novel (if someone’s beaten me to the punch, please don’t tell me)? I couldn’t find the right opportunity, though, so I decided to just whip out Photoshop and write… whatever you’d call this. A faux conspiracy theory? A historical anecdote from an alternate universe? A rough draft for an SCP Foundation entry? In any case, stay frosty!

“Christmas Inverse” – A Spooky Holiday Poem

Merry Christmas, all! Or whatever you may celebrate this time of year — it’s the presents and tree for me, though, so when I saw an upside-down tannenbaum at a local bar, I was inspired to tap into the Dickensian tradition and write an eerie poem about a backwards Christmas. What could possibly go wrong?

“WHICH WAY” – An old-school creepypasta

If you were online in certain, spooky corners of the internet (for better or worse) in the early 2010s, you probably saw at least one picture like this: an eerie photo with a short story to the side, white text on a black background. These were effectively creepypasta as memes, and when I was getting into the subgenre at the time, I stumbled across a lot of my favorites in this format: easy to share, hard to forget.

So when, as I often do, I took advantage of a creepy photo op and then let my mind wander, I figured I was long overdue to contribute to the form. Share it around, if you like–to see it randomly pop up on another site would honestly be an honor! In any event, these things never did seem to have titles, but if this one did, it’d be two words, one question, and yet infinite possibilities:

WHICH WAY

New Experimental Horror Story: “The Heavenway Files”

Long time no post! Admittedly, as I get busier with work and focusing on YouTube and Instagram content, this blog has grown dusty. Is there even a place for a WordPress in this age of short, swift tweets ‘n TikToks?

Seems there’s hope for the former, at least! Spurred by the “#CursedFootage” challenge started by Eduardo Valdés-Hevia, a splendid horror artist I follow, I decided to use the ten themed days to explore an idea I’ve had for a while–and mixed-(social) media “found footage” proved to be the perfect format. It’s best if you go in cold, but in short, it combines my fascinations with modern conspiracy theories, creepypasta, and uncanny/liminal architecture.

If the above picture intrigues you, read the rest below… and remember: this is all fiction, and yet are you sure that dent in the back of your closet was always there?

The terms of the challenge.

I Tube, YouTube, We All Tube

So, it’s been a time since I’ve been on here! Not sure who still follows, but thank you for sticking around if you do, and a fine hello if this is your first time checking in. Long story short, COVID and some associated professional change-ups haven’t made me the creative powerhouse behind the pen that I thought I’d be this year, hence the lack of writerly updates since May.

However, in the meantime, I’ve doubled down on learning how to do video editing and production instead–and I’m really enjoying the more tangible results. In particular, I’ve put out some more film reviews, as well as semiregular uploads of horror game streams from my Twitch! I also did a short film with my brother as intro for the latter, which I’m rather proud of.

Here’s some highlights — please Like, Share, and Subscribe if you can! It’s just a hobby for now, but I really enjoy having more folks see my stuff:

My comedic-meets-analytical review of this summer’s polarizing blockbuster “TENET”!
A minute-longish film merging the creepy and the geeky to introduce my stream vids!
A short highlight vid of one such stream, of a truly weird underwater horror game!

And there’s plenty more on my channel after you click through! I’m always working on getting that much better each time with the technical aspects of content creation, and I hope to put out some all-new videos soon doing full reviews/riffs on old films with an insightful spin. As always, in the meantime, be sure to check me out on Twitter and Twitch as well–streams are 7pm PST on Sundays!
